Gameplay mechanics are just the lifeblood of any RPG. Some of the ones I have had a chance to be amazed by in their innovativeness enhancing the gaming experience have been weather systems and even tactical combat, just to name a few. What about you?

I always thought the cards in Final Fantasy 8 were interesting. I know some people don't like the card mechanic, but I thought it was different and fun once you learn how to play it. I also love Legend of Legaia's battle system, it's similar to a fighting game where you input commands and depending on which ones you input, your character can use arts.

I'll agree on the card game in FF 8 and 9. I also like FF 7's materia system, sad it never came back.

I also like the flow of battle in the kingdom hearts games, I feel like SE hasn't really hit that with any other series in a while.

I love a lot of gameplay mechanics in RPGs and one of them is the nemesis system in the Shadow of Mordor. I love the way the enemies have to grow stronger after defeat and that makes everything feel alive.
