Dragon Warrior (AKA Dragon Quest)
I currently own the very first Dragon Warrior game which was released on the NES. I still haven't gotten around to playing it though, I have a huge backlog of games in my collection that I never played. Anyways if you played this title, did you prefer it over Final Fantasy? This was Enix's franchise btw, but now that Square and Enix merged together they both own both franchises now which is funny since they were once rivals. I have some of the later titles too, but again I never played them yet.

Dragon Warrior was released as Dragon Quest in the United States, right? Well, I have heard of this game franchise but never played any games.

Yep the first three games were known as Dragon Warrior, but eventually was switched to Dragon Quest which was the name of the franchise everywhere else. I'm not sure why they had to use the name Dragon Warrior, I guess it was due to copyright issues but I'm not sure.Nomad wrote: Sat Mar 15, 2025 4:23 pm Dragon Warrior was released as Dragon Quest in the United States, right? I have even played the original Dragon Warrior, it's a very old classic title. While I enjoyed Final Fantasy, I really feel that Dragon Warrior was a better game. Its simplicity and difficulty always made that game more fun and interesting.

There's quite a few people who do prefer this franchise to Final Fantasy. Fun fact I did forget to mention, Akira Toriyama, the artist who worked on the DragonBall/DragonBall Z series worked on the art in Dragon Quest!

That's pretty tight as well. I bet his classic art style must have been quite a catchy turn to the game. I guess with his character design and the tough gameplay, Dragon Quest was so different from other RPGs of its time.Ravenfreak wrote: Sun Mar 30, 2025 11:24 pm There's quite a few people who do prefer this franchise to Final Fantasy. I know for a fact I never played this while growing up, wouldn't be till DQ 8 that I would play the series. Kind of a shame I never played it sooner, I love all the games in it, basic as the first one was.
