What was your first RPG?
Like I mentioned in my introduction topic, Pokemon Yellow was my first RPG. Shortly after that I had to return the game back to my friend, so I got a copy of Blue to replace it. Without Pokemon I don't know if I'd ever got into this genre. I know people like to rip on Pokemon and say it's a baby's first RPG but in my case it really was.
I first played it in 1999, this is where my love for RPGs came to be. In 2000 for my 10th birthday, I got a copy of Legend of Legaia for the PS1 and man I love that game! Anyways what was your first RPG?

Re: What was your first RPG?
I think my first might have been Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past - but I definitely came nowhere close to beating it when I first played it. It was probably just messing around and getting killed on my parents files lol. Otherwise I'd also say Pokemon!

I love A Link to the past! I still need to get around to playing it again, I only played it a bit but I still enjoyed it.

My first RPG was Final Fantasy VII. I remember being completely immersed in Midgar and the characters like Cloud and Tifa. The story blew my mind, and the turn-based combat was so engaging. It hooked me into RPGs for good.

That's a classic and a great one to start with! I wish I got to experience the game when it first came out, but I was only 7 years old and didn't have any game consoles at the time.Nomad wrote: Tue Mar 18, 2025 3:16 pm My first RPG was Final Fantasy VII. Actually I did not play it when it came out. When it was released, I had not even started playing video games. I learned about the game many years later.Ravenfreak wrote: Thu Mar 20, 2025 10:28 pmThat's a classic and a great one to start with! I think... it was Breath of Fire 1, that or Final Fantasy, can't recall the first one I played while growing up.

Breath of Fire 1 is fun! I beat it a few years ago, and started on the sequel but I think I got lost and put it down. :V I remember seeing an ad for Breath of Fire 3 on the back of my Mega Man Legends manual and I always wanted a copy of the game.

Hero-Quest on Amiga. It was not "true" RPG, just adaptation of the quasi-RPG board game with quite simple mechanics, but it was one of the things which made me interested in the genre.
