I have designed a small RPG with basic dice mechanics years ago. It was not that great, but I had a lot of fun playing it with my friend.

I never did this myself, though it's probably not too difficult to do! I think the only thing I would struggle with are the leveling up mechanics, all the math parts. I'm not good at math lol. I'm sure there's tools to help with this though.
