Final Fantasy IX

Post by Ravenfreak »

This is a beloved game in the Final Fantasy series. I'll admit it though, I've never played it myself nor have I ever watched someone else play it before. I know many people love it, and praise it more than VII at times. It's on my list of games I need to play at some point though lol. Have you ever played this one? I know vivi is from this game, he makes an appearance in Kingdom Hearts 2.

Final Fantasy IX is my true love in the series because of the peculiar heroes, story, and the music that is hard to forget.

The last true final fantasy game for the medieval theme, FF 10 was good but this had so much magic and charm to it.

Still hoping for news of a remake, as the 25th anniversary has come and past, maybe this fall?

I do remember how this game went from being so hated to becoming the best in the franchise over the years.

Kind of odd when that happens but it seems to happen quite often. I think people get nostalgic for certain games and it changes their perspective on the game. I can't judge this one since I still haven't played it yet.

I think it’s more of the people who originally hated it got bored of complaining about it, and went to complain about other games, and that left the folks who did like it take over the conversation. They also could have aged out of online communities to complain about it. Most older millennials are too busy with life to care about what randos on the internet think about a 25 year old game.

Also several years later, the context of the release is lost to time. The game coming out after the PS2 isn’t relevant, and the game industry and community moved on past the “mature gamers play mature games” fad. Nobody cares if a game looks like a Saturday morning cartoon?

I could see the hate coming from it looking too old style instead of having future look like 7 and 8 were.

It wasn’t from it looking “old style” it was the cartoony art style. This was during the era where childish looking = bad because gamers are mature.

Basically it had the same issue Zelda fans had with Windwaker.
