Many people here might not know about this series. The first game, which I'm referring to in this thread came out only in Japan. It was one of the earliest action roleplaying games! Later titles are turn based though. Interestingly enough this game was re-released later on the Gameboy and Sega Saturn. This is gameplay footage of the PC-88 version of the game. Man it's crazy to see how far we've come with games since 1984!

Re: Dragon Slayer
Oh man that is a classic looking game! I can see why it was Japan only, not sure if it would have been good here in the states.

Re: Dragon Slayer
Yeah I don't think RPGs really caught on here much until the 90's. But the jump from 8-bit to 16-bit helped the genre out. I'll have to make a thread about the 16-bit games since there were two released on the Mega Drive and I hope someday they can be translated into English. I know one of them is on the Turbgrafx-16 so it's in English lol.

Re: Dragon Slayer
8-bit does have its charm, but I don't think I could play one these days, be low end too old school for me. I can do 16-bit just fine.Ravenfreak wrote: Fri May 30, 2025 8:09 pm Yeah I don't think RPGs really caught on here much until the 90's. But the jump from 8-bit to 16-bit helped the genre out. Re: Dragon Slayer
I don't mind 8-bit but the graphics in the original Dragon slayer are much weaker looking and looks like it's on an Atari lol. I guess that would be considered 4-bit? :V Still it looks like it was ahead of it's time.
Re: Dragon Slayer
The graphics and gameplay are so different from what we're familiar with today. Though it looks like a very interesting game to play.
