So, today being payday, I pulled the trigger and spent $49 I didn't really have. But reading about people having so much fun, even while solo-playing with it, I decided maybe I should take a look at it.
Okay, so reading this, I got hooked. I mean, who wouldn't want to be secret agent or something, right? The most fun I had in ShadowRun was playing a Covert-Ops character, and this game is built specifically for these types of characters!Born of the U.S. government’s 1928 raid on the degenerate coastal town of Innsmouth, Massachusetts, the covert agency known as Delta Green opposes the forces of darkness with honor but without glory. Delta Green agents fight to save humanity from unnatural horrors—often at a shattering personal cost.
In Delta Green: The Role-Playing Game, the players are those agents. They fight to save human lives and sanity from threats beyond space and time.
And because I also own the Mythic GM Emulator, I'm going to give my hand a try at this system and see how I like it. I also just checked to see if there's module for Green Delta within the Foundry VTT, and guess what? There is!
Upon reading some of the first pages of the Agent's Handbook (the core book for the Player), it appears that you're a covert-ops Government-mercenary battling Lovecraftian horrors. The setting appears to be modern-day or near-historical (think like 1950's), but really any time period relatively near to the present (probably +/- 50) is more than doable. Oh wait...it's 2025, I was thinking maybe 2000. So take what I say here with a bag of rock salt. But looking at the Handler's Guide (the GM core book), it talks about everything from Nazis, The Cold War, Iraq, Aliens (like the ET kind), and even mythological creatures and Zombies!
To play this game, you're gonna want grab your dice bucket because this game apparently uses everything from d4 to d100's. Creating an Agent requires rolling 4d6, dropping the lowest die, for all six Stats (STR, DEX, CON, INT, POW, and CHA). As you play, your Agent may develop Mental Disorders, which ultimately force them into Retirement. There's several professions that can be played, such as your typical Federal Agent, Intelligence Analyst, or Pilot, but also unusual occupations such as Media Specialist or Criminal. And if that's not enough for you, there are rules for how to create new professions by combining the included listing of Skills. Skill checks are done on a Percentage Roll Under mechanic. The other dice mentioned are used for calculating damage.
Anyway, I'm not going to give away all the secrets of this game, but it does look pretty impressive!
