Legend of Legaia

Post by Ravenfreak »

This is hands down my favorite RPG on the PS1! Also known as The Legaia in Japan, LoL is a turn based RPG with some fighting game elements. You control three characters named Vahn, Noa, and Gaia on their quest to rid the world of the mist, a powerful tool used to enrage creatures known as Seru. There's commands that the player inputs during each turn, if they input correct commands the characters can perform arts. There's four different types of arts, normal ones, super ones, hyper ones, and Miracle Arts. The story and music is fantastic as well! In fact my favorite video game track of all time comes from the game! You should play this game if you never have! It got overshadowed by Final Fantasy VIII unfortunately. It's a underrated gem on the PS1!

Never played this one before but it sounds good. Might have to fire up the Playstation emulator and give it a go sometime! Pretty interesting hearing that it's similar to a fighting game, never played an RPG other than Final Fantasy VI that has you inputting commands.

I guess I forgot to mention that there's a LOL fan who's remaking the game! He posts updates on r/legendoflegaia but he's also got a Patreon you can join if you want to support his work and get a behind the scenes look on the project.

Pretty cool! A fan remake of Legend of Legaia could breathe a lot of new life into the game, introducing it to a whole new audience. It's excellent that the creator is going to build a community around the project with a Patreon. It's nice!

It is! If you're looking for a new RPG to play I do recommend giving this a go if you haven't yet too! I can't wait for the creator of the remake to release a beta!

Someone over on the Legend of Legaia subreddit is starting to poke around the games code and reverse engineering it! He told me the process and he mentioned if it works he's going to tackle Gex 3 afterwards since I mentioned I would like to reverse engineer the game! I'm hoping he can find some cool hidden goodies or make a disassembly for everyone to edit the game with!

Kind of like making it fully playable on PC like some N64 games are getting? That be cool.

Now that would be awesome! If his methods for disassembling the game work, people could port it to PC!

There is a lot of fan projects in the work to make this happen, but its something that takes a lot of work.

Exactly! A PC port would allow many possibilities and with mods and patches, the game could be revived.
