I have so many memories of those and the fights never lacked the nolstagic feeling and they were simple in terms of mechanics.

I think I know where my old came cartridge is, I should pull it out to see if the battery is still good.

You should! If it's gen 1, there's a good chance it still works fine. My yellow needs a new battery but it's the only Gen 1 game that I need to replace the battery. It needs some work done other than that though, I think a chip needs to be reflowed.

Nice thing these days, there is plenty of videos on how to fix things.
